TVET Month – Placing the spotlight on TVET Colleges

As per the decade of the artisan declaration in 2012, the month of August has been identified as Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Month by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The objective of this declaration was to place the focus on the TVET College Sector in order to position the sector as the first choice for prospective students to complete a qualification in higher education and training. Secondly the month hopes to demyth the mind-set that a TVET qualification is an inferior one.

Annually the 50 TVET College nationally takes part and initiates various activities in to celebrate TVET Month. The six Western Cape TVET Colleges rally together to strengthen the message of the Western Cape TVET sector and will also see various initiatives and programmes to help give the sector exposure Northlink College will be hosting various events and activities for the month which not only speaks to the prospective students, but also to the general public, the College stakeholders and the media. They are:

• Open Day – 3 August (Engineering Campuses) and 5 August (All campuses at the Parow Campus in collaboration with Capitec Bank, Old Mutual and Nedbank)
o In addition to the exhibitions and the info sharing at the Open Days, there would be:
 An additional exhibition of the College Courses
 An info sharing session for Life Orientation Teachers
• Student support offers Career Guidance on a regular basis, but during August special campaigns will be running to help give this offering more exposure
