The Tourism Department of Northlink College Tygerberg Campus, celebrated their annual Tourism Day on Wednesday, 20 February 2013. This day was filled with fun, various activities and entertainment.
The Tourism Day is one of the traditions that the Tourism Department reinstated and will be looking to celebrate annually. All the class groups were divided into different countries such as Angola, DRC and Djibouti to name but a few and took part in the various activities as a group. This day forms part of the Tourism Department’s Social Responsibility and the funds raised went to the “Save the Rhino” campaign. It also links with the Northlink Cares campaign that was launched in 2012 as part of Northlink College’s 10th Anniversary.
Says Gwen Harmsen, H.O.D.: Tourism and Hospitality at Northlink College Tygerberg Campus: “This event acts as our social responsibility for the year where our R5 donations that we brought with will be collected to help save the rhino. This day also acts as a bonding time for us as a department.”
The event saw entertainers, sporting activities and performances by the different class groups getting the students in the spirit of tourism and enjoying the day together.
“We hope that the spirit that this day evoked in the students will be seen in the class room and that they will feel part of the tourism family,” adds Gwen.
