Northlink College and Blackburn College have signed a partnership agreement and memorandum of understanding in 2011 and since then the two Colleges have been sharing best practice with each other and with other Colleges in the form of the Leadership Symposium and the Quality Conference held in 2012. This lead to the inception of the first Blackburn/Northlink College Inter-College competition in 2012.
Six Northlink College students and four staff members left South Africa in late November 2012 and went to Blackburn to show them what quality education South Africa produces. Three students from the Northlink Hair Care Department and three students from the Hospitality Department took part in the competition that saw external judges judging the competition as well as but international brands sponsoring the Hair Care competition.
“This competition gave the students much needed competition and international exposure that is not only great in the personal development of the students, but in the educational development of the student as well,” says Heloise Lotz, Northlink College Tygerberg Campus Academic Head and competition coordinator.
Northlink College’s Mari Stemmet and Guy Kleinhaus came first and second respectively in the Hair Care competition and Nicky Malgraff and Christel-Joy Arendse finished second and third place respectively in the hospitality competition.
“The dedication and the preparation of the staff at the College gave us a much better platform to prepare the students for the competition and that helped us achieve these great results,” says Helmien Croucamp, Northlink College Hair Care Programme Manager.
2013 will see Northlink College play host to the Blackburn College students that will be participating in the second edition of the Blackburn/Northlink College Inter-College competition.
