Essie does it again and again and again and again and…again!
At the recent WP track and field saw the WP athletes fair very well. As per usual, Northlink College’s own Essie (Mariëtte Strauss) went for gold.
Essie ran the 10 000m on the Friday night, and the 2000m steeple-chase, the 800m, 1500m and the 5000m on the Saturday where she won 5 gold medals in all 5 races that she participated in for her age group (50-54). She then, while winning all these events betters the WP 10 000m with more than 11 seconds and her own African record with more than 5 seconds.
“I am honoured that I could take part in these racing events and hope that I will still be able to participate without any serious injuries,” says Essie.
Essie now holds the second place on the World Rankings for her age and overall seventh on the All Time World Rankings.
She now qualifies for her national colours in these mentioned track items and soon will be participating in the national track and field competition that will be taking place later in the year.
