Zaza Jacobs, Protea Campus Clothing Production student from Gugulethu, has been chosen as one of the Foschini Young Designer Awards Semi-Finalists that will be creating a garment which be exhibited at the Design Indaba in 2013.

The competition will consist of 2 more rounds, with the next one being in early 2013 and the last one being the final round that will see his garment be placed on display at the prestigious Design Indaba. The one garment has a specific theme that needs to be portrayed in the design and this will be one of the main judging kriteria of the competition. The catch; however is that this garment’s material and its accessories should not be more than R1500.

Says Adri Bell, Programme Manager: Clothing production, “We are so proud of Zaza. The fact that he was chosen as one of the top entries for this round while competing with other institutions not only shows Northlink’s quality of students that we produce, but speaks volumes of the quality of our lecturing staff.”

The Foschini Young Designer Awards has seen many of Northlink’s students participate throughout the years since it has been established and because of this, Northlink College is seen as a “power-house” institution that competes in this competition every year.

“I am so excited and can’t wait to start with my designst,” says Zaza during an interview with the Foschini crew after the announcement was made.

We look forward to what will be created by Zaza and wish him all the best for the coming rounds.
